Iterating well.

BE SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT IS WRONG

"Make it better" changes things arbitrarily.

"The second paragraph is vague. Add a concrete example" produces a targeted fix.

USEFUL CORRECTIONS

"Too long. Half the length." "Too formal. Write as though speaking to a customer." "You missed [point]. Rewrite including it." "Remove the opening paragraph." "That fact is wrong. It is [correct]. Redo it."

WHEN TO REGENERATE INSTEAD OF CORRECTING

When the output started in the wrong direction entirely.

Correcting within the same conversation can inherit the problem.

HOW MANY ITERATIONS

Two or three usually reaches something usable.

More than that means the prompt needs rewriting rather than the output.

WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR CORRECTIONS

Fold them into the prompt for next time.

After five uses, the prompt produces output needing little editing.

THE HABIT

Correct precisely, and learn from what you corrected.
