THE STAGES
Expiry. The domain stops resolving. Your site and email go offline. Grace period. Renewal at the normal price is usually still possible. Act here if you can. Redemption period. Recovery requires a registry redemption fee, typically far above the renewal price, plus the renewal itself. Pending delete. A short final stage during which nothing can be done. Released. The domain becomes available for anyone to register.

WHY THE FEES ARE WHAT THEY ARE
Redemption fees are set by the registry and passed through. We cannot waive or reduce them.
IF IT HAS BEEN REGISTERED BY SOMEONE ELSE
There is no recovery route through us. Your options are to approach the new registrant, which rarely goes well and can be expensive, or to choose a different domain.
The only reliable protection is auto-renewal, a valid card, and a contact address that is not on the domain in question.
