Transferring consolidates your domains where your hosting is, and usually adds a year to the registration.
BEFORE STARTING
At your current registrar: Unlock the domain Obtain the EPP or authorisation code Ensure the registrant email address is current and reachable, as approval is usually sent there Disable WHOIS privacy temporarily if it blocks the approval email Check the domain is more than 60 days old and was not transferred within the last 60 days, as registry rules block transfers in those windows
STARTING THE TRANSFER
Client Area > Domains > Transfer In. Enter the domain and the EPP code, and pay the transfer invoice. The transfer fee typically includes a one-year extension.
WHAT HAPPENS
The losing registrar is notified and you receive an approval request. Approving it speeds things considerably. Without approval, transfers complete automatically after about five days for most extensions.
IMPORTANT
Your website and email keep working throughout, provided the nameservers are unchanged. A transfer moves the registration, not the DNS. Some extensions, particularly country-code ones such as .ng, have their own procedures. Open a ticket and we will advise on the specific extension.
