Transferring Ownership of an Account Print

Selling a business, handing a site to a client, or moving an account to a new owner requires a formal change rather than simply sharing the password.

WHY IT MATTERS

Whoever holds the registered account details controls the services. Informal handovers leave the previous owner able to request changes, and leave the new owner unable to prove entitlement when something goes wrong. This causes serious disputes, particularly over domains.

THE PROCESS

  1. The current account holder opens a ticket from the registered email address requesting the transfer, naming the new owner and identifying exactly which services are involved.
  2. We contact the incoming owner to confirm they accept.
  3. We verify both parties. For high-value accounts and domain registrant changes this may include identification documents.
  4. We make the change and confirm to both parties.

DOMAINS NEED SEPARATE ATTENTION

Changing the hosting account holder does not change a domain's registrant at the registry. Registrant changes follow the registry's own process and, for some extensions, trigger a transfer lock. Tell us if domains are included.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Do not simply hand over the login. If the relationship later sours, neither party can demonstrate entitlement and we cannot adjudicate.
