Working around limits.

WHY REFUSALS HAPPEN

Some requests resemble ones that could cause harm, even when yours does not.

The judgement is applied broadly and catches legitimate requests.

WHAT TO TRY

Explain the context and purpose Rephrase more specifically Break the request into parts

WHY CONTEXT HELPS

"How do I check whether my own site is vulnerable to X" is different from the same question with no context.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Try to trick it. That is both unproductive and against the terms of use.

IF THE REQUEST IS GENUINELY LEGITIMATE

Open a ticket describing what you were trying to do.

IF THE ANSWER IS UNHELPFUL RATHER THAN REFUSED

Usually a prompt problem. Add context and specify what you actually need.

IF IT HEDGES EXCESSIVELY

"Do not hedge. State things directly."

IF IT WILL NOT COMMIT TO AN ANSWER

"Give me your best answer, then state your uncertainty separately."
