The principles that matter.
BE SPECIFIC
Say who it is for, what it is for, how long, and what format.
Vague requests produce generic output, reliably.
GIVE CONTEXT
It knows nothing about your business, your customers or your situation.
Everything it needs must be in your message.
GIVE AN EXAMPLE
One example of the output you want conveys more than several paragraphs of description.
ASK FOR ONE THING
Split complex requests. One task per message produces better results than five combined.
ITERATE
Treat the first response as a draft. Say what is wrong and ask again.
ASK FOR OPTIONS
"Give me three versions" beats accepting one.
ASK FOR CRITICISM EXPLICITLY
It will agree with you otherwise. "What are the three weakest points in this?"
STATE WHAT TO AVOID
Naming phrases you dislike removes them.
THE SINGLE BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT
Context. Everything else is secondary to it.
