Particular considerations.
WHERE IT GENUINELY HELPS
Explaining official letters and forms Drafting correspondence Reading text aloud Explaining technology Company, in a limited sense, without replacing people
WHAT TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT
Fraud. Older people are targeted disproportionately and the methods have improved.
THE VOICE CLONING RISK
A call from an apparent grandchild in distress, asking for money.
The voice may be convincing.
WHAT PROTECTS AGAINST IT
Call back on a number you already have. Agree a family question only the real person would know. Never send money on a phone call, whatever the urgency.
ON ISOLATION
A conversational assistant can feel like company.
It is not, and relying on it instead of people is a risk worth naming.
Encourage it as a tool, alongside human contact rather than replacing it.
WHAT TO SET UP
Their own account A device lock Someone to ask when unsure
WHAT NOT TO DO
Assume they cannot learn it. Many find it easier than other technology.
