Hosting and domains renew on their own cycles. Missing either has consequences, and they differ.

HOSTING

Invoices are generated before the due date and reminders are emailed. If payment is not received by the due date, the account is suspended after a short grace period. The site and email stop working, but your data remains in place.

Pay the outstanding invoice and the account reactivates, usually automatically. After an extended period of non-payment the account is terminated and data is removed, so do not leave it indefinitely.

DOMAINS

Domain expiry is more serious and less forgiving. An expired domain stops resolving, taking your website and email offline even though the hosting is fine. There is a redemption period afterwards during which recovery is possible but expensive, and after that the domain can be registered by anyone.

AVOIDING PROBLEMS

Keep your Client Area email address current, and check that our messages are not being filed as spam. Enable auto-renewal, and make sure the payment method on file is valid. Keep a note of renewal dates outside the system. If you are going to be away, pay early.

If you are having difficulty paying, open a ticket before the due date rather than after.
