Active recall.
WHY TESTING BEATS REREADING
Retrieving information strengthens memory. Rereading feels productive and does little.
This is well established and most students do the opposite.
HOW TO USE AI FOR IT
"Ask me questions on this material, one at a time. Wait for my answer. Tell me what I got wrong."
That format matters. One at a time, waiting for your answer.
WHAT TO ASK FOR
Recall questions Application questions, which test understanding rather than memory Questions about the edges of a concept
FROM YOUR OWN MATERIAL
Paste your notes and ask for questions from them.
That keeps the testing on what you actually need to know.
AFTER GETTING SOMETHING WRONG
"Why was my answer wrong? What was I confusing it with?"
Misconceptions persist until identified.
SPACING
Test again days later, not immediately.
Immediate testing feels better and works less well.
WHAT TO VERIFY
The answers, against your course material.
