GENUINE INDICATORS
You consistently hit CPU, memory or entry-process limits after enabling caching, removing heavy plugins and blocking bad bots. Your traffic has grown to the point where peak periods regularly produce 508 errors. You need software we do not run on shared servers, or a specific PHP extension or system package. You need root access, custom firewall rules, or a particular server stack. You have compliance requirements that shared hosting cannot satisfy. You are running a large shop where slow checkout costs real money.
POOR REASONS TO MOVE
A slow site that has never had caching enabled. It will be just as slow on a VPS, at higher cost. A vague sense that dedicated resources must be better. Without optimisation, they mostly are not. A single bad speed test result.
WHAT CHANGES
A VPS gives you dedicated resources and control. It also gives you responsibility for updates, security and configuration, unless you choose a managed option.
