When visitors can post.

WHEN THIS APPLIES

Comments Reviews Forum posts Uploaded files Profile content

WHAT TO COVER

What content is not permitted That you may remove content That users are responsible for what they post What rights you have to use what they post How to report content

WHY IT MATTERS

Without stated rules, removing content becomes a dispute.

With them, you are enforcing a published policy.

WHAT TO PROHIBIT

Illegal content Abuse and harassment Spam and advertising Content infringing someone's rights Impersonation

MODERATION

State whether you moderate, and whether before or after publication.

Do not claim to moderate everything if you do not.

REPORTING

Provide a route to report content, and act on reports.

THE PRACTICAL REALITY

Unmoderated user content becomes spam and abuse quickly.

If you cannot moderate, consider whether to allow it at all.

REVIEWS

If you publish customer reviews, do not selectively remove negative ones. That is deceptive and, in some jurisdictions, unlawful.
