Making the case.

WHAT DOES NOT PERSUADE

Standards and compliance language Legal threats Technical detail

WHAT DOES

"A proportion of your customers cannot currently use this. They will not tell you; they will go elsewhere."

Specific, commercial, and true.

DEMONSTRATING IT

Show them the site at 200 per cent zoom. Try to complete their contact form using only the keyboard, in front of them.

A demonstration persuades where an explanation does not.

WHAT TO PROPOSE

Not a full audit initially. The five things that matter most: contrast, labels, keyboard access, alt text, headings.

A defined piece of work with a visible result.

PRICING IT

As part of a build, it costs little extra and should be standard.

As a retrofit, as a defined project.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Claim you will make the site fully compliant unless you will test against the standard.

Overstate legal risk.

FOR CLIENTS WITH OBLIGATIONS

Public bodies, schools and larger organisations may have explicit requirements.

Establish that early; it changes the scope.
