What to say and not say.

WHAT NOT TO CLAIM

Full compliance with a standard you have not tested against.

A false claim is worse than saying nothing: it is a statement people rely on.

WHAT YOU CAN SAY

What you have done, honestly.

"We have worked to make this site accessible, including keyboard navigation, alt text and sufficient contrast. If you have difficulty using any part of it, please contact us."

That is honest, useful, and it provides a route for someone who encounters a problem.

AN ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

A page describing your position: what you have done, what you know is not yet right, and how to report a problem.

Required for some organisations. Good practice for anyone.

WHAT TO INCLUDE

Your commitment What standard you aim for, if any Known limitations How to contact you about a problem When it was last reviewed

WHY ADMITTING LIMITATIONS HELPS

It is honest, and it demonstrates awareness rather than indifference.

A statement claiming perfection is disbelieved by anyone who finds a problem.

THE CONTACT ROUTE

The most useful part. Someone who cannot use your site needs a way to tell you.
