What the person updating the site needs to know.

ADDING IMAGES

Write alt text describing what the image conveys.

Leave it empty for purely decorative images.

USING HEADINGS

Choose the level by structure, not by how the text looks.

Do not skip levels.

Do not use bold text as a substitute for a heading.

WRITING LINKS

Describe the destination. "Read our guide to X", not "click here".

WRITING CONTENT

Short paragraphs Plain language Explain jargon Meaningful headings

PASTING FROM ELSEWHERE

Paste as plain text. Pasted formatting brings inconsistent styling and sometimes broken markup.

ADDING TABLES

Only for tabular data, with proper header cells.

ADDING DOCUMENTS

Prefer a web page. If a PDF is necessary, ensure it contains real text.

COLOUR

Do not rely on it to convey meaning.

THE THREE HABITS

Alt text, heading levels, descriptive links.

If a content editor does those three consistently, most content-level accessibility is handled.
