Moving a domain between registrars.
WHAT CAN CHANGE
Some transfers reset nameservers to the new registrar's defaults.
The domain then points at a parking page rather than your hosting.
WHAT TO CHECK IMMEDIATELY AFTER A TRANSFER
WHOIS, for the nameservers now in use That they are the ones you intended That the site and mail still work
IF NAMESERVERS RESET
Set them back at the new registrar.
GLUE RECORDS
If you run private nameservers on the transferred domain, the glue records must be recreated at the new registrar.
They do not always transfer, and their absence breaks every domain using those nameservers.
DNSSEC
If enabled, a transfer can break the chain of trust, making the domain fail to resolve entirely.
Disable DNSSEC before transferring, and re-enable it afterwards if you use it.
THE PREPARATION
Note nameservers, glue records and DNSSEC state before initiating a transfer.
AFTER THE TRANSFER
Check the site, mail, and any subdomain.
Transfers are usually uneventful and the failures are worth anticipating.
