Understanding Resource Limits and 508 Errors Print

A 508 Resource Limit Reached message means your account hit a plan limit at that moment, not that the server is down.

THE LIMITS

  • CPU: processing time
  • Physical memory: RAM
  • Entry processes: how many requests run at once
  • I/O and IOPS: disk throughput

CHECKING

cPanel > Resource Usage, then Details, shows graphs over time and names which limit was hit and when.

WHY IT HAPPENS

No page caching, so every visit runs the full application A traffic spike, legitimate or otherwise Bot or attack traffic wp-cron overload Heavy plugins, particularly statistics, link-checking and live chat A backup or import running during peak hours A genuinely growing site on a plan that no longer fits

FIXING IT

Enable caching first, as it usually solves the problem outright. Move backups and imports to quiet hours. Remove or replace heavy plugins. Block abusive bots, ideally with Cloudflare. Set up the cron job correctly.

If usage stays high after all of that, the site has outgrown the plan. Open a ticket and we will look at the graphs with you.
