Moving where records are held.

BEFORE STARTING

Export or record every record at the current provider.

Include type, name, value, priority and TTL.

Missing a record means something breaks silently after the switch.

THE ORDER

  1. Record the existing zone
  2. Create every record at the new provider
  3. Query the new provider's nameservers directly and confirm they return correct answers
  4. Lower the TTL at the old provider, if you can, a day in advance
  5. Change nameservers at the registrar
  6. Monitor and test

WHY STEP THREE MATTERS

It confirms the new nameservers are correct before anyone is directed at them.

Most DNS migration failures are caught here if you look.

WHAT BREAKS MOST OFTEN

MX records, stopping mail TXT verification records, lapsing weeks later Subdomains nobody remembered

AFTER SWITCHING

Test the website Test mail both directions Check every subdomain Confirm AutoSSL still works

DO NOT DELETE THE OLD ZONE

Until the change is fully in effect and everything is verified.
