cPanel's IP Blocker refuses connections from specified addresses.
BLOCKING AN ADDRESS
- cPanel > IP Blocker under Security.
- Enter a single address, a range such as 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.40, or CIDR notation such as 192.168.0.0/24.
- Click Add. Blocked visitors receive a 403 Forbidden.
FINDING THE ADDRESS TO BLOCK
Metrics > Visitors for recent activity, or Metrics > Raw Access for the full log.
WHEN IT WORKS WELL
A single persistent scraper One address hammering a login page or form A known nuisance source identified in your logs
WHEN IT DOES NOT
Distributed attacks from thousands of rotating addresses. Blocking them individually is a losing game; use Cloudflare instead.
CAUTIONS
Do not block your own address. If you do, use another network to remove the entry. Blocking an entire country's ranges blocks legitimate customers too, and the ranges change. Large block lists slow request handling. Keep the list short and review it periodically.
For attacks large enough to affect the server rather than just your site, open a ticket. We can act at the network level, which you cannot.
