Pricing a project.

WHAT TO ESTABLISH FIRST

What they actually want, specifically What exists now Who provides content and images What the deadline is What their budget is, roughly

THAT LAST QUESTION

Uncomfortable and it saves everyone time. A client with a budget far below your price should know immediately.

QUOTING A FIXED PRICE

Preferred by clients. Requires you to define scope precisely, or you absorb everything extra.

QUOTING HOURLY

Protects you and makes clients anxious about the total.

THE PRACTICAL APPROACH

Fixed price for a defined scope, with an explicit list of what is included and what is not.

Additional work quoted separately.

THE SCOPE LIST

The most important part of the quote. "Includes X, Y and Z. Does not include content writing, photography, or changes after approval."

That list prevents most disputes.

PADDING

Add a margin for the things that always take longer. They always do.

REVISIONS

State how many rounds are included. Unlimited revisions is how projects never end.

VALIDITY

State how long the quote stands.
