Migrating a Client's Site to Your Hosting Print

BEFORE STARTING

Get access to the current hosting, or a full backup Note the current DNS records, including mail Note where the domain is registered Agree a timing window

THE PROCEDURE

  1. Take a full backup from the source and download it
  2. Create the account on your reseller allocation
  3. Restore or upload files, create the database, import it
  4. Update the application configuration for the new credentials
  5. Recreate mailboxes and forwarders
  6. Recreate cron jobs
  7. Test using a hosts file entry before changing DNS
  8. Lower the TTL in advance if possible
  9. Change nameservers
  10. Run AutoSSL once DNS resolves

WHAT PEOPLE FORGET

Email. Mailbox contents do not move with a website backup. Download them by IMAP. Cron jobs DNS records for third-party services The database prefix in the configuration

DO NOT CANCEL THE OLD HOSTING

Until propagation is complete and everything is verified. A week at minimum.

AFTERWARDS

Test every page, forms, mail both directions, and checkout if applicable.
