Designing your offering.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Three packages. Small, medium, large.
A page with eight options produces indecision, and you must support every combination.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THEM
Disk space Number of websites Number of mailboxes Possibly support level
WHAT NOT TO DIFFERENTIATE ON
Features that cost you nothing and that everyone expects: SSL, email, databases.
Withholding those makes the cheap plan look mean rather than making the expensive one look generous.
PRICING THE TIERS
The middle one should be the obvious choice for most customers. Price the others to make it so.
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN EVERY PLAN
SSL
Email Backups, or a clear statement that there are none Support, with stated hours
STARTING NARROW
One plan, for the customers you actually have, is a legitimate start.
Add tiers when customers ask for something different.
WHAT TO AVOID
Unlimited anything. It is not true, and it attracts customers who will test it.
