If Google flags your site, browsers show a red warning page and your traffic stops almost entirely.
FIRST: CLEAN THE SITE
Requesting a review before the site is clean wastes the attempt and the next review takes longer. Complete a full cleanup first.
THEN: REQUEST A REVIEW
- Set up Google Search Console for your domain if you have not already, and verify ownership.
- Open the Security Issues report.
- Read what Google detected and confirm you have addressed it.
- Click "Request a Review" and describe briefly what was wrong and what you did.
- Wait. Reviews typically take a few days.
OTHER BLACKLISTS
Your domain may also be listed by browser vendors, security vendors, or email blacklists. Check with an online blacklist lookup, and follow each provider's own delisting process.
IF THE WARNING RETURNS
The site was reinfected, or the cleanup missed a backdoor. Go back through the cleanup process properly, and open a ticket for help.
PREVENTING IT
The cost of a blacklisting, in lost traffic and lost trust, is far higher than the effort of keeping software updated. Set up updates and backups and treat both as routine.
