WHEN YOU MIGHT
The proxy causes more trouble than it solves You want to simplify Testing whether Cloudflare is responsible for a problem
TWO OPTIONS
Keep Cloudflare for DNS, with every record set to DNS only. You keep the fast DNS management and lose the proxy.
Or move DNS away entirely.
TURNING OFF THE PROXY ONLY
Set every record to grey. Nothing else changes, and DNS continues working.
This is reversible in seconds and is the sensible first step.
MOVING DNS AWAY ENTIRELY
- Export the zone from Cloudflare, so you have every record.
- Recreate the records where DNS will live, usually cPanel.
- Change the nameservers at your registrar back to ours.
- Wait for propagation.
- Test the site, mail and cPanel.
WHAT TO CHECK AFTERWARDS
MX records and mail SPF and DKIM Any third-party verification records AutoSSL, which may need running again
DO NOT DELETE THE CLOUDFLARE ZONE
Until the new nameservers are fully in effect and everything is confirmed working.
