Every place errors are recorded.

CPANEL ERROR LOG

cPanel > Metrics > Errors. The most recent server and PHP errors for your account.

The first place to look for almost anything.

RAW ACCESS LOGS

cPanel > Metrics > Raw Access. Every request with its status code. Useful for identifying when a problem started and what triggered it.

APPLICATION LOGS

  • WordPress: wp-content/debug.log, once WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG are enabled
  • Laravel: storage/logs
  • Others: wherever the application is configured to write

BROWSER CONSOLE

Press F12. The Console tab shows JavaScript errors and blocked resources. The Network tab shows failed requests and their status codes.

Essential for anything visual: missing styles, broken functionality, mixed content.

MAIL LOGS

cPanel > Track Delivery shows what happened to every message sent from your account.

OVER SSH

tail -f on the error log while reproducing the problem shows errors as they occur.

WHAT TO DO WITH THEM

Read the most recent entries around the time of the problem. The answer is usually there.
