WHAT MATTERS
Image quality, balanced against page weight Fast loading, since visitors judge a designer's site by how it performs Clear contact details
Enough context: what the project was, what you did
THE IMAGE PROBLEM
Creative sites are image-heavy by nature. The temptation is to upload full-resolution work.
Resize appropriately, compress properly, and use lazy loading. A portfolio that takes ten seconds to load undermines the work it displays.
PLATFORM
WordPress with a portfolio theme, a static site generator, or a hosted service.
For a designer, a static site is worth considering: fast, secure, nothing to maintain.
PROTECTING WORK
You cannot prevent images being copied. Watermarking is the usual approach and it degrades presentation.
Publishing lower-resolution versions is the practical compromise.

MAINTENANCE
Portfolios are frequently built and then neglected. Keep the platform updated even when the content is not changing.
