An honest comparison.

WORDPRESS

Largest ecosystem, most plugins, most developers, easiest to find help. Simple to start, and complex sites end up with many plugins.

Suits: most business sites, blogs, shops, anything where finding help matters.

JOOMLA

More structured than WordPress out of the box, with finer access control. Steeper initial learning curve, smaller ecosystem.

Suits: sites needing structured content and multiple user levels without many plugins.

DRUPAL

Most powerful content modelling, strongest access control, most demanding. Requires genuine expertise, and rewards it.

Suits: complex content sites, institutions, anything with sophisticated editorial requirements.

PRESTASHOP AND DEDICATED SHOP PLATFORMS

Commerce-first rather than content-first.

Suits: shops where commerce is the entire purpose.

STATIC SITE GENERATORS

Fastest and most secure, least convenient to edit.

Suits: documentation, brochure sites, technical authors.

THE PRACTICAL ADVICE

Choose what you or your developer already know, unless there is a specific reason otherwise. Expertise matters more than platform differences for most sites.
