A capable alternative to WordPress.
INSTALLING
Available in Softaculous, or download from the official site and install manually.
Requires a database and a supported PHP version. Check the requirements for the version you are installing.
AFTER INSTALLING
Delete the installation directory, which Joomla prompts you to do. Leaving it is a serious exposure. Change the administrator credentials if the installer set defaults Set the site to https in Global Configuration Enable search engine friendly URLs, which requires renaming the supplied htaccess file
THE ADMINISTRATOR AREA
Reached at yourdomain.com/administrator. Consider protecting it with cPanel Directory Privacy.
STRUCTURE
Joomla separates articles, categories, menus and modules more explicitly than WordPress. This is more work initially and more flexible for complex sites.
Menus control what appears where, which surprises people expecting pages to be directly publishable.
EXTENSIONS
Install from the official directory. The same warning about nulled software applies with equal force.
BACKUPS
Akeeba Backup is the standard tool and is genuinely good. Configure it to store copies off the server.
