When Softaculous does not have it, or you want control.

THE GENERAL PROCEDURE

  1. Download the application from its official site. Never from a third party offering it free.
  2. Upload the archive to the correct directory and extract it on the server, which is far faster than uploading files individually.
  3. Create a database and user in cPanel, granting all privileges. Note the cPanel prefix on both names.
  4. Set file permissions: 755 directories, 644 files.
  5. Visit the site in a browser and follow the installer.
  6. Supply the database details when asked.
  7. Complete the installation.
  8. Delete the installation directory if the application asks you to.

AFTERWARDS

Set the configuration file permissions to 600 Run AutoSSL Configure any cron jobs the application needs Set up backups

WHY DO IT MANUALLY

You get the current version from the source, you understand what was installed, and you avoid the installer's assumptions.

THE STEP PEOPLE MISS

Deleting the install directory. Leaving it allows anyone to re-run the installer.
