WordPress is not the answer to everything.

WHAT TO ASK FIRST

What does the site actually need to do Who will maintain it How much do you want to configure versus accept defaults Does anyone involved already know a platform

TYPICAL MATCHES

A business site, blog or shop: WordPress, which has the largest ecosystem and the most people who know it A complex content site with structured data and many editor roles: Drupal

  • A shop where commerce is the whole purpose: PrestaShop, or WordPress with WooCommerce
  • A forum or community: phpBB or similar
  • A learning platform: Moodle
  • A custom application: a framework such as Laravel
  • A simple brochure site: static HTML or a static site generator

THE PRACTICAL DEFAULT

WordPress, unless you have a specific reason otherwise. Not because it is technically superior, but because finding help, plugins and developers is easier than for anything else.

THE HONEST EXCEPTION

If your requirement is unusual, forcing it into WordPress with fifteen plugins produces something fragile. A purpose-built application is frequently simpler.

BEFORE COMMITTING

Check it runs on your plan. Open a ticket and ask.
