Which pages are in the index, and why others are not.

WHERE

Search Console's indexing report lists pages by status.

THE STATUSES

Indexed: the page is in the index and can rank

Crawled, currently not indexed: found but judged not worth indexing, usually thin or duplicate content Discovered, currently not indexed: known but not yet crawled, often on large sites or slow servers

  • Excluded by noindex: you told it not to index
  • Blocked by robots.txt: crawling was prevented
  • Not found (404): the URL returns an error
  • Redirect: the URL redirects elsewhere
  • Duplicate: another page was chosen as canonical

WHAT TO ACT ON

Pages you want indexed that are not Errors on URLs that should work A large number of pages excluded as duplicates, which suggests a canonical problem

WHAT NOT TO WORRY ABOUT

Excluded pages that should be excluded: tag archives, paginated pages, admin URLs.

Not every page needs indexing. A site where every URL is indexed frequently has a thin-content problem.

REQUESTING INDEXING

Available for individual URLs. Useful for new or updated important pages, not for bulk submission.
